The Director of Finance and Investments (DFI) is the official at MUBAS responsible for, in a manner of speaking, paying the bills. This official is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor and is directly responsible for two assistant finance officers and a troop of support staff in the accounts department. It is in many ways the most consequential department because that is where the money is. 

In fulfilling the responsibilities of this office, the DFI prepares and monitors the university budget and cash flows. He or she also develops, implements, and monitors financial and investment policies, plans, strategies, procedures and regulations. This official is also responsible for facilitating the management and revaluation of assets and stores. 

Together with the Vice-Chancellor and other top-management officials, the DFI must mobilize resources for the university to run and to establish investment ventures. However, it is solely the responsibility of the DFI to prepare financial statements and other reports. The DFI must also facilitate access to insurance and pension portfolios.
