About Blantyre City
Located in the city of Blantyre, Malawi’s commercial capital, The Polytechnic is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Malawi (UNIMA), and has been for many decades. The College is arranged into five faculties, under which are a total of 17 departments and seven centers offering a range of academic programmes and business services.
Depending on the programme, students can earn an undergraduate, graduate or professional qualification, being awarded a certificate, a diploma, a bachelor’s degree, a postgraduate diploma, a master’s degree, or even a doctorate degree. The various faculties, departments and centers are located on three campuses: Main Campus, Annex Campus, and Chichiri Campus.
The Main Campus is located to your right as you drive along the Masauko Chipembere Highway, a major thoroughfare that stretches from the Blantyre Commercial Business District all the way to the Limbe Commercial Business District, some 9.7 kilometres away. The Campus is, conveniently enough, near two shopping and business malls—the Gateway Mall and the Shoprite Mall.
It is also near the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) and abuts the headquarters of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), which itself abuts the Southern Region headquarters of the Malawi Police Service (MPS). As such, all of these locations are within a kilometer of each other and the Main Campus. Opposite the Main Campus, also along the Highway, is the Annex Campus. The Chichiri Campus is also located along Kasungu Crescent, about 2 kilometres from the Main Campus, near the Museum of Malawi.
