MUBAS LECTURERS HONE NEW SKILLS
Speaking during the opening of the workshop, Executive Dean for the School of Engineering at MUBAS, Associate Professor Burnet Mkandawire said the workshop seeks to improve teaching and learning at the university. He said the initiative highlights MUBAS’s continued commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and professional development, as the university works to produce graduates who are creative, adaptable, and solutions-oriented in their respective fields.
“This workshop is part of our broader mission to improve the quality of teaching and ensure our graduates are equipped for the challenges of the 21st century and we are excited to collaborate with global partners to build capacity among our academic staff,” said Mkandawire.
In an interview on the sidelines of the workshop, William Baah, Rice360 Invention Education (IvE) Africa Programs Coordinator said Rice630 wants to enhance teaching and learning by promoting invention education, an approach that improves student-lecturer engagement through a hands-on experience.
He added that Rice360 enjoys a premier relationship with MUBAS and was instrumental in establishing the MUBAS Design Studio to assist students conduct high impact research.
‘’Since the establishment of the Design studio, we have seen students’ coming up with research projects that impact their societies,’’ said Baah.
The workshop was facilitated by distinguished faculty from both the United States and Africa. It focused on key areas including active learning strategies, effective grading techniques, module-level curriculum review, and the integration of AI and digital technologies in teaching.
Tadala Namaona, a lecturer in the Electrical Engineering Department said the workshop will assist in sharpening her teaching skills.
‘’The workshop will help me to shift from a lecturer centred delivery to a student focused delivery which will improve better understanding of concepts among my students,’’ said Namaona.
35 academic members from different departments attended the workshop.
