The Journey Begins: MUBAS Postgraduate Orientation

The Executive Dean of the School of Business and Economic Sciences at Malawi University of Business and Applied sciences (MUBAS), Associate Professor Betchani Tchereni, has advised post graduate students to work diligently if they are to complete their studies within the stipulated period of their programmes.

Betchani Tchereni said this during the orientations that MUBAS organized for its newly admitted postgraduate students. While congratulating the students for being enrolled into various postgraduate programmes at the University, Tchereni underscored the need for proper time management during their period of study at the institution.

"You have come here to gain skills that can assist you to realize your professional goals; so, you must make a lot of sacrifices.  Here at MUBAS, we don’t tolerate mediocre academic work; we focus on quality because we have a responsibility to the Malawian people who fund the running of this University through their taxes," Tchereni emphasized.

During the orientation, students were acquainted with various information regarding different themes that included general rules and regulations, library resources, student management information systems (SMIS), academic quality and student welfare.

Aubrey Sunganyama, who has enrolled into a Master of Arts in Health and Behavior Change Communication (MHBCC) programme, expressed joy for being admitted at MUBAS saying the postgraduate studies will assist in furthering his skills and knowledge as a communication specialist. 

"The government's emphasis on promoting mindset change makes programmes like the one offered at MUBAS exceptionally relevant," Sunganyama said. 

Bonface Matekenya, a Master of Business Administration student also expressed joy for being enrolled at MUBAS. He commended MUBAS for academic excellence and the flexibility of its post graduate programmes. 

 “Studying at MUBAS, allows one to combine school and work without any disturbance,” said Metekenya

The postgraduate orientations took place on 20 and 22 September 2023 in Blantyre and Lilongwe respectively.  Over 120 students have been enrolled into different PhD and Master’s degree programmes such as Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Sciences (Environmental Health), Doctor of Philosophy in Commerce (Financial Management), Master of Arts in Media Studies, Master of Business Administration, Master of Arts in Health and Behavior Change Communication, and Master of science in Sustainable Energy at MUBAS.
