In clean pursuit of entrepreneurial success, the graduates received their certificates after undergoing apprenticeship training in metal work, soap making, media, and wood work under the tutelage of experienced trainers and mentors for a period of 3 to 6 months.

MUBAS Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Ishmail Kosamu said the Incubation Centre aims at providing skills to students so they can not only provide solutions to society but also create jobs in the country. He, therefore, encouraged the graduates to work hard in their business endeavors since success does not usually come easily.

‘’ You must be prepared to endure more challenges in the business environment. You will face negative energy which will tell you to give up; and, there will be positive energy that will propel you forward. So, there will be a war within yourself, but stay on your course and success will come’’ advised Kosamu.

Furthermore, Kosamu challenged the graduates to look at the various challenges people and society are facing and provide solutions.  He also urged them to be conversant with the MW2063 blue print so as to realign their business plans to the country’s vision. 

Kosamu added: ‘’Government provides the biggest business and you must be acquainted with the Malawi 2063 vision because if you cannot understand the direction government wants this country to achieve through the 2063 vision, you might miss out on business opportunities because you will be moving in a different direction while the country is heading into another direction’’.

Professor Kosamu reaffirmed the university’s creeds of creativity, innovation, and knowledge generation and to achieve that, he said MUBAS has opened up so many spaces like the Innovation Hub, Design Studio, The Incubation Centre and the UNIPOD where skilled Malawians can refine and sharpen their business and innovation ideas. He also told the graduates that MUBAS has entered into an agreement with the Malawi Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) to act as a guarantor for graduates who wish to access loans from the state lending institution. 

Wisdom Kumbukani, one of the graduates, expressed gratitude to MUBAS for introducing the incubation programme which he said will improve the socio-economic lives of many Malawians.

The MUBAS Incubation Centre was established in 2020 and so far over 600 Malawians, mostly the youth, have acquired skills in soap making, carpentry, metal work, food processing and tailoring among others.
