Blantyre District Health Office trains MUBAS students on immunization to end polio

In a concerted effort to eradicate polio, the Public and Environmental Health Sciences (PEHS) department, in collaboration with the Blantyre District Health Office (BDHO), recently conducted a crucial training program. The training, which was held in Blantyre on March 9, 2022, equipped the students with the skills and knowledge necessary to sensitise communities on polio and provide vaccines.

The training, held at MUBAS, covered essential aspects of immunisation, emphasizing the importance of polio prevention. Students received comprehensive instruction on vaccine administration, community engagement, and the significance of reaching vulnerable populations. 

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the training, the PEHS Head of Department, Associate Professor Save Kumwenda, said that the training was part of a wider effort to build the capacity of young people to help end polio in Malawi.

"We are grateful to BDHO for partnering with us on this important initiative. We believe that the students who have been trained will play a vital role in raising awareness about polio and ensuring that children in Blantyre are vaccinated," said Kumwenda.

The BDHO facilitator, said that the training was a valuable opportunity for the students to learn about the importance of immunisation and how to provide vaccines safely and effectively.

"We are confident tlantyre. Their mission was to raise awareness about polio, educate residents, and administer vaccines. Equipped with accurate information and a dedication to public health, these student hat the students will use the skills they have learned to help us achieve our goal of ending polio in Blantyre," said the facilitator.

After successfully completing their training, the MUBAS students were deployed to various communities in Bambassadors embarked on their mission to make a positive impact.
