PIC: Dr.Flemmings Ngwira emphasizes a point during the press briefing
The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) has revealed that it will soon begin construction of a two-story ODeL Building at its Nanjiri campus in Lilongwe, with funding from the World Bank through the Skills for a Vibrant Economy (SAVE) Project.

MUBAS SAVE Project Team Leader Professor Harold Mapoma disclosed this on 20 December 2024 in Blantyre during a media interface organized to inform the media fraternity of the university's success stories and activities achieved under the project.

Professor Mapoma outlined that under the SAVE MUBAS Project, the university has been implementing several themes, including developing new and reviewing some of its curricula, capacity building through staff training and development, and community outreach programmes.

In his remarks, the Communications Focal Person for the SAVE Project, Dr. Flemmings Ngwira echoed Professor Mapoma’s sentiments by emphasizing some milestones achieved under the project.

“Under this project, we have strengthened our human resource capital by training our staff at various levels, reviewed several curricula and also developed new market-oriented and relevant curricula.

He added that the recent introduction of the Bachelor of Insurance and Risk Management demonstrates the university’s commitment to developing industry-driven programmes.

‘’ We have aligned our programmes to meet industry needs so that we offer education that is relevant and of high quality, ‘’ he added.

‘’The University also reached close to 120,000 students in secondary schools across the country through career guidance and counselling on the programmes on offer.  The students were also sensitized on the dangers of gender-based violence,’’ said Ngwira.

Commenting on the project, Communications Specialist for the SAVE Project Implementing Unit, Anderson Fumulani commended MUBAS for making significant strides in the implementation of the project.

‘’ The Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) for the Nanjiri project have been approved by the World Bank so the project is on track, though we acknowledge that there have been some delays but we are hopeful that the construction will be completed in time,’’ said Fumulani.
