MUBAS Head of Research and Innovation, Dr. Madalitso Tsakama who presided over the graduation ceremony, urged all graduands to embrace new challenges with the same enthusiasm and curiosity that carried them through the training. 

He emphasized the importance of utilizing their newly acquired skills not only for their personal gains but for the betterment of society at large, especially in the communities they live. 

"Wherever you are or located, you need to make a difference," he advised.

Tsakama added that many Malawians still find it difficult to secure formal employment upon completion of their studies, and the business incubation programme is there to buttress the university's commitment to equipping students with the skills necessary for them to become job creators. 

“This initiative aligns with the Malawi 2063 vision of fostering self-reliance, confidence, and entrepreneurship among graduates” he said.

One of the graduands, Yobe Lusare, who was studying Electrical Installation and Maintenance commended MUBAS for introducing the programme which has given him a platform to leverage on. 

"The program has been a tremendous booster for me. I appreciate all those who contributed in sharpening my skills in this field  with new skills and technologies. I hope to start my own company and employ others," said Lusare.

Lucy Banda Thomson, a nurse by profession, also shared her experience: 

"After realizing my passion for Tailoring and Designing, I decided to join the business incubation programme to enhance my skills so that I can contribute to the growth of the tailoring industry in our society."

In 2024, the Centre enrolled 50 incubates in various programs, of which 44 incubates managed to complete program modules, develop comprehensive business plans, and create market-ready products. 

Graduates were awarded certificates of competence in the following fields: electrical Installation and Maintenance, tailoring and designing, food processing and entrepreneurship. Since its inception, over 600 incubates have benefited from the MUBAS Business Incubation programmes.
