Call for applications: Occupational Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Short Course

Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (SHE) is fast becoming a key issue in protecting people and the environment from the risks associated with workplace activities. It involves employers and employees, as well as regulators. The Department of Environmental Health at the Polytechnic is the first public college to offer a specialized Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health in Malawi. The Department will now offer a short course in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment in order to build capacity of officers in the field. The Department therefore invites applications from occupational safety and health managers, OSH officers, OSH nurses, workers from various companies and organizations across the country including those who would want to join the SHE field to apply for the short course.

Topics to be covered from 

  1. Introduction to Occupational Safety and Hygiene
  2. Policies and regulations on SHE in Malawi
  3. Occupational Safety and Health toxicology
  4. Hazards, risk assessment and management
  5. Incident and accident  investigation and reporting
  6. Health and safety inspections and audits
  7. Emergency preparedness and planning
  8. Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems
  9. Fire Safety Management
  10. Introduction to Environmental Management in the work place

Course facilitators will be a mix of practicing experts and demonstrators from industry and those from the academia. The mix of skills will help participants understand theory, practice and emerging issues in the field.

Who to attend the course

Attendants to this course are occupational Safety and Health Officers, managers and all who would want to add their knowledge in the field.

Other important information and course fees

Participants will be required to pay for their own accommodation and transport to and from The Polytechnic in Blantyre. The cost of each course is MK300, 000.00 per participant. This includes lunches and course materials.

The application letter should contain your current position and the organization you are working with. The application letter should be maximum one page long. 

Payment will secure your attendance on the course. The training will be conducted at The Polytechnic. Those who will complete the course will receive a certificate of completion.
